Facility managers are used in a variety of fields. They may work in medical, educational or rehabilitative facilities. In every one of these fields, the facility manager is responsible for overseeing the entire operation of the facility and its staff. The manager must implement a plan of action that works to benefit the clients served, staff and budget. Planning a time and cost-effective plan of operation is difficult and comes with a great deal of responsibility if the plan goes awry. Managers must learn a great deal of information, including compliance with state and federal laws, codes and requirements. They must also have a good knowledge of custodial and maintenance aspects. Utilizing space, using resources efficiently and planning a solid inventory system is vital to success. Facility managers are also responsible in many settings for balancing and maintaining a budget. Some of these managers are responsible for more than one facility; such as a regional facility manager, who oversees the operation of multiple locations.

Facility managers must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in business management. Those who desire to work in the field of healthcare may instead seek a degree in nursing home administration or medical facility administration. Many facilities, especially larger ones with multiple branches, will require their facility managers to have at least two years of practical working experience in addition to a college degree. Another way to become a facility manager is to begin working in the facility in a general job that requires only a high school diploma. Most facilities offer tuition reimbursement to employees, so it would be possible to receive education while working there and not pay as much. After graduation, the facility will usually offer their graduated employee the opportunity to work as an assistant manager, later becoming the facility manager. It is also important to have a clean driving and criminal background to become a facility manager, especially in medical facilities.

These managers often earn salaries between $45,000 and $80,000. Beginning facility managers earn between $45,000 and $50,000 per year. The opportunities for advancement and raises are plentiful. Usually facilities funded by the government pay the highest yearly facility manager salaries.

Managers should be life's problem solver not facility enjoyer?

Problem either of one type or other is faced by everyone at various points of time. But one thing is sure that if there is a problem then there is its solution and if there is a solutuion then there is a solution provider also.We now a days call this solution provider a manager.Manager doesn't do any thing but instead it provides a way to act so that the problem can be dealt with. So managers can be viewed as a life's problem solver. In other words a manager is responsible for making people enjoy the facilities, provided with there involvement. So its obivious that a manager is not himself a facility enjoyer.Managers have to utilise the available resources optimally to produce a solution of any current problem in question. Many a times its our mismanagement which causes us a problem,so by making an arrangement to counter that mismanagement will provide the solution, and this particular work is done by managers. This leads us to make a statement that managers are in some way facility arrangers instead of themselves enjoying it. If ever managers will start only enjoying the facilities then who will be concerned with life's problem which are to be reprensented by someone(managers) to resolve it.The main purpose of a manager is to provide a framework which is problem resistant. So this point should be kept in mind that- "Managers should be life's problem solver not facility enjoyer"
