Guayaquil, Ecuador is officially known by the longer moniker Santiago de Guayaquil. Guayaquil is actually the largest and by far the most populous metropolitan area in all of Ecuador. The population greatly exceeds 3.3 million. Guayaquil is the nation’s main port city. Guayaquil sits proudly on the western bank of the Guayas River. This is a river that flows into the cool salt waters of the Pacific Ocean. The point where the river meets the ocean is named the Gulf of Guayaquil. The parrillada is a finely-seasoned, perfectly-grilled smorgasbord of mouth-watering cooked meats and sausages that are served sizzling in their own delicious juices on a hot coal brazier. The absolute best part of this unbelievable dish is that the servings are monstrously massive. This is a real foodee’s dream. Leftovers from one serving can usually double as most people’s next two meals. The bifstek chorizo is another very popular dish that is served at Parrillada del Nato. The bistek chorizo is a humungous cut of meat that doesn’t even fit on the hearty plate on which it is served. It offers an euphoria-inducing burst of flavor which is unparalleled. This is Ecuadorian cooking at its finest.

For a nice little hangout spot, traveler’s should try Bop%C3%A1n’s.
