One of the benefits of having vinyl siding on your home is that it is very easy to clean if it should get dirty. Dust and grime will inevitably collect in the cracks between your siding no matter what kind of siding you have. There are some simple ways to clean vinyl siding and keep it looking nice all year.

Common Garden Hose

Vinyl siding should be watered down at least once a week. The easiest way to rinse the siding on a weekly basis is to connect a spray attachment to your garden hose and spray the vinyl down. Start at the top of the wall, closest to the roof. This will allow any dirt that is washed off to run down onto the part of the siding that you have not cleaned yet. If you start at the bottom, you will have to run your hose back down the wall again because the wall will get dirty as you go.

Soap and Water

Once every few months it is a good idea to use some soap and water to clean your siding thoroughly. Most automotive supply stores carry soap that can be attached to a hose and sprayed through a special nozzle. Automotive soap will do an excellent job on vinyl siding. Spray your house down with the special soap attachment, then replace the soap attachment with your normal spray attachment to rinse the siding down again. Using soap that attaches to a hose will eliminate the need for you to climb a ladder and wash the siding by hand.

Long Handled Brush

Sometimes there are stubborn stains that develop on vinyl siding. Parts of the house that are near trees are particularly susceptible to staining. When a stain will not wash off with a hose, you will have to find a way to scrub the siding by hand. There are brushes that have been designed to wash the sides of recreational vehicles and will work wonderfully for washing hard to reach places on your vinyl siding. Dip the brush in a bucket of soapy water and then scrub the stain until it disappears. Once you are done, rinse the siding like normal.
