1. Figure out what kind of curriculum you want to deliver to those who take on your training. Make sure you fully prepare by reviewing the material that are a part of the curriculum and figure out in what way you will deliver the training. Typically, you will want to take twice the time to prepare for a training class than you will need in order to take the class. For example, if your class is going to be eight hours long, you will want to prepare for sixteen hours. Think about the participants of your class, who they are, how experienced they are and what they already know about the subject at hand. Make sure your class caters to that particular group. Chances are you will have a mixed group, though, so this may be a difficult thing to achieve. All in all, you want them to feel valued and not to feel bored.
2. When it is time to deliver your training, make sure you are there early and greet everybody as they come in. This will help you get started on the right foot. Get to know them with open ended questions of discovery and make sure they know you are interested in them as a person. This will ultimately help you for the rest of the day, allowing them to see you as a partner instead of an untouchable authoritative figure. For the remainder of the training, ask that they be involved with minimal lecture. Allow them to guide the course of discussion as often as you can.
3. Upon the conclusion of the class, make sure you have them commit to using what they learned in the class. Gather them into a circle and fully debrief on the class and its teachings, sharing the best ways to practice what was discussed. Consider sharing email addresses so that you can keep in touch and help them even after class has finished.
