Culinary arts school prepares students to work in the food industry. Culinary artists plan and prepare food. They work in restaurants and sometimes own their own restaurants. Culinary artists may also work for luxury resorts, hotels, and catering companies. Their job titles include cook, chef, sous chef, and executive chef. Many students train for a career in the culinary arts at community colleges. Tuition is often less expensive at these schools than at more prestigious schools. Tech schools that offer a culinary arts program often offer both the certificate and the 2-year degree. The 2-year degree is the most practical option. It is one level above the certificate, and it only requires a few extra courses
Associate’s Degree in Culinary ArtsAt the community college level, most culinary arts schools are easy to enroll in. The basic requirements for most programs are as follows:
--Transcripts from high school or a GED certificate
--Valid SAT scores or scores from an equivalent test
--A health checkup record revealing that the student is able to perform job functions sufficiently
--An application fee (fee varies depending upon the school) and an application for admission
The above mentioned application fee is most often anywhere between $20-$100 depending on the school. The application consists of basic student information, such as name, address, questions about previous academic work, etc.
Once admitted into a culinary arts program, the student must decide whether to pursue the diploma program or the associate degree program. Both programs contain much of the same courses. However, the associate’s degree program requires students to complete a couple of extra courses in math, science, and social science. The associate degree program may also require students to complete extra electives in their field of study. The core curriculum for the major courses is hands-on. Students complete courses in the following, but this list is not all inclusive and the curriculum may vary depending on the school:
--Principles of baking
--Sanitation and safety
--Presentation and preparation
--Hors D’Oeuvres and appetizers
--Hotel and restaurant leadership and management
--Purchasing, menu planning and preparation
--Nutrition

Yes. Most Culinary arts schools require you to have a High school diploma or equivalent such as a GED.
It depends on what culinary school you are looking at and what type of degree you want. For instance if you want to just get a certificate at the most school is a year, if you want an associates degree school last for two years. You can also go to some culinary schools and major in business and that would take about 3 and half years.
