Almost everyone has trouble sleeping once in a while. Temporary sleep problems may be attributed to illnesses or emotions (such as worrying about problems or excitement over an upcoming event). However, frequently not being to sleep may be a sign of a serious sleep problem.
Getting a good night’s sleep is necessary to function properly. Sleep problems can cause you to feel foggy, irritable and unable to concentrate. Sleep problems will eventually affect your work and personal life, so it’s important to get help if you commonly have trouble sleeping.
If you have trouble staying awake duirng the day, need caffeine to stay awake, get easily angered, or if others tell you that you look tired, then you have a chronic sleep problem. There are five main sleep disorders: insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, snoring and restless legs syndrome. Insomnia is usally temporary and can be caused by stress, a new sleep schedule or change in time zones. Insomnia can be alleviated by paying attention to your sleep habits and learning to relax. Medications can be addictive and come with many side effects, so they are not recommended. During sleep apnea, your breathing stops and your brain loses oxygen. Sleep apnea is very serious and can cause death. It is important to see your doctor if you think you may have sleep apnea. Medical devices or surgery may be recommended. Narcolepsy causes you to fall asleep suddenly and without warning. It can dangerous for someone to fall asleep while walking or driving. Narcolepsy is treated with medication and counseling. Snoring occurs when an airway becomes narrow. It can be alleviated by changing sleep position or losing weight. Restless legs syndrome is another disorder that can cause interrupted sleep. It causes a person to continually move their legs while they are lying down. Lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements can help. It is important to note that this disorder can be related to other medical conditions, so you should see a doctor for examination.
Chronic sleep problems can be a sign of serious condition, so see your doctor if you always seem tired and unable to focus.

Depends what kind of trouble they are in. Of course, some people have problems which stem in great part from the fact that they refuse to believe that they have problems--such people are hard to help. However if the people know they need help, they usually know what they need, and so do you. If they have an injury they need medical help. If they are out of money, they need a loan or a job or both. If they have legal problems they could use some legal advice. If they need a place to stay, they need a place to stay.

If you have sleeping problems, 5 hours is pretty good. If your a mother with young children, 5 hours is pretty good. If you don't have sleeping problems or your not a mother with young children, then you need more sleep. You need at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep to be almost fully functional (depending on how old you are, what time you work, your gender, and how much sleep you normally get a night). If your having trouble sleeping, then talk to your doctor.
