Replacing your wiper blades may sound like a complicated ordeal. However, in truth, wiper blade replacement is quite a simple task.
First, stand near the side of your car. Now pull the wiper blade out so it’s standing up and away from the windshield in a vertical position.
Next, you’ll need to look for a tab on the wiper blade assembly. With most wiper blades, the tab should be near a hook, which will be located at the end of a metal arm that connects to the wiper assembly. Find this tab and press it in.
While you are pressing this tab in, you should be able to simply slide the wiper blade assembly off of the hook. Discard the old assembly.
Now retrieve your new wiper blade. Slide a hole in the center of your wiper blade through the hook in the same place you removed the old blade. Once you have properly slid it through this hole, simply push it up and the wiper blade should click in place.
Now all you have to do is rotate the arm of the wiper blade back down, and it should operate just as before.
However, perhaps only the rubber blade of your windshield wiper was damaged. To save a lot of money, just replace this rubber instead. There should be a tab at the end of the wiper blade that clamps down on this rubber strip.
Find this tab and press it in. You should then be able to either pull the rubber strip out of the wiper blade or slide it out. Removing the rubber strip may be hard to do sometimes due to certain locking mechanisms. Actually cutting the rubber may sometimes be necessary.
After removing the rubber, simply replace it with a new rubber blade. You can buy new rubber blades for your windshield wipers at most automotive shops for rather cheap. In the future, occasionally clean the rubber blade with a cloth soaked with alcohol to extend its life by a year.
Performing these simple steps, you’ll see that replacing the rubber in your windshield wiper or the entire windshield wiper assembly can be quite easy.
