When there are things to be done outside of the home, chances are that a ladder is required. But though it is simple in design, it can also be dangerous to the health and safety of anyone that comes into contact with it. Exercising the right safety tips is important in order for a chore, whatever it might be, to be completed at a smooth pace.
1. Before setting even one foot on the ladder, there is something one must do. Every ladder, especially those that do not belong to the user or are brand new from the store, needs to be inspected; check for cracks, holes, and anything else that might indicate a weak structure. Never do this quickly or lazily, else an accident, or even death, is a notable possibility. Set the ladder down on the ground and put pressure on each step with a foot. If it shows no signs of breaking or warping, it should be fine for use.
2. When ascending or descending from the ladder, be sure that one is not facing off to either side of where they are; look directly in front at the wall the ladder is leaning on, and keep this focus until reaching the ground. This may seem strange, but there is plenty of logic behind it. For one example, the person may become so preoccupied with staring in a certain direction that they will cause the ladder to lean. No matter what sounds might be heard, this should not be a deterrent to concentration; exercise caution.
3. Avoid placing a ladder in front of a doorway or window. If it’s absolutely unavoidable, make certain that the door or window is securely locked in some way. This can either be done manually, or, in the case of a door, by tying the doorknob so that nobody can push it open by surprise. Let anyone who will be in the house or other building know not to run in or otherwise cause a problem.
Ladder safety is essential to a successful task; not just for the person climbing it, but for everyone involved. Use common sense and know when to give up.
Well it depends on what ladder it is some are safe some are not
I often use screwdrivers while on a ladder. Just be careful you are safe while doing this.
About 15 degrees. Many, if not most, extension ladders today have a sticker on the side that shows a line that should be parallel to the ground when the ladder is at the proper safe angle.

A ladder should be safe if it is properly constructed and maintained. Both single and extension ladders should be equipped with nonskid safety feet and should be placed on a firm, level surface.
