Riga is a the capital city of Latvia, home of the country’s most foreign commercial trade. With its convenient location on the Daugava River, Riga has been a site for trade since the early centuries when Vikings used it as a trade route.

In the past century, Riga was also occupied by the Soviet Union. To make known the horrors suffered by Riga’s residents, intended never to be forgotten, the Occupation Museum gives visitors an honest and sobering view of how horrible the beautiful city’s past is.

Today Riga is focused on moving forward and is home to the Riga Motormuseum and the Aviation Museum. Also a point of ancient historical interest is Riga Castle, an ornate riverfront castle dating back to 1330. Alongside the castle is the Riga Historical Museum, also a point of interest.
