If you are over weight and have a picture of yourself that you really do not like, put it up on the fridge. So everytime you go to eat you have to look at what food has done to you. Trust me it will make you put down that food!
When it comes to eating and our minds there can be a catch. Sometimes we think about food because we are hungry. This is a normal and natural part of being human, when we’re hungry we think about food. Then there is the reverse scenario. You’re at home, or maybe driving somewhere, and you start to think about food. You know, logically that you’re not hungry. This may not even be a craving, from a technical point of view, but you keep thinking about how nice it would be to be eating something very bad for you right now. You’re daydreaming about a cheeseburger, or a chocolate bar or something else you know you just don’t have the excess calories for today. The thought just won’t leave your head, it repeats over and over like a mobius strip in your mind. What do you do about it now? Lets talk strategy: Do Something with Your Hands Provided you’re not in the driving scenario, finding something to do with your hands if you brain is already busy will help you to keep from going into auto-pilot. It will keep you from engaging your hands with an endless stream of junk food, or not noticing how much you are eating. So keep your hands busy with something. Maybe now is a good time to take up woodcarving or knitting.
Engage Your Brain If your hands are the busy part then try keeping your mind going. You can figure out how to take over the world, plan a winning Chess strategy, or figure out how exactly it is that someone can feel like a rolling stone (an idea which has never made sense to this writer). Do whatever you need to keep your mind off of the sinfully good foods and onto the task at hand. Give in… A Little Sometimes all you can do is give the beast what it wants. Does that mean you have to go crazy? Of course not, you just have to only give you guys access to a little bit of your bad. Don’t buy a bag of bulk candy, get a small bar. Don’t buy a gallon of ice cream, buy a single serving. Yes, it may cost you more per ounce, but with less of it in the house you can do less damage. See there you have it. Of course these are not iron clad answers, nothing in this life is, but you can use these techniques to help augment your will power and get from where you are right now to were you want to be. In the end you are going to have to summon up the will power in order to get through the issue, but a concerted campaign of distraction, and knowing when to go in on a small scale treat, will help you to get past your craving without indulging in a 1,000 calorie snack that will hurt you in the long run.
