Westchester County is one of the most affluent areas in the United States. Nearly 1 million residents proudly call this county their home, and many more visit this spectacular county. Although mostly suburban in nature, Westchester County has several urban towns and cities that offer great culture, entertainment, dining, shopping, lodging, recreation, and much more. It is also well known for an abundance of country clubs, as tennis and Golf are quite popular in the area.

Much of Westchester County’s sophistication can be attributed to its close location to New York City. Being less than 20 miles away from midtown Manhattan, Westchester is one of the most premier suburbs of NYC. The county has an advanced transportation system that includes an airport, multiple highways, buses, commuter trains, and ferries.

Arts & Entertainment

There is no shortage of great art and entertainment in Westchester County. For art lovers, the most notable attraction is the Hudson River Museum. Located in the city of Yonkers along the Hudson River, this museum has a wonderful collection of paintings from the 19th century art movement known as the Hudson River School. Paintings of beautiful local landscapes of the Hudson Valley will mesmerize anyone. There are also exhibitions on other themes and topics such as local history.

Those that enjoy live music on weekday or weekend nights, will love the Paramount Center for The Arts. Located in downtown Peekskill, this entertainment venue is booked with touring musicians and entertainers such as comedians and magicians. Whether you prefer jazz or rock, you’ll find some enjoyable tunes or have a few laughs there.

Lovers of Classical Music can enjoy an unforgettable concert from the Westchester Philharmonic. Based in the performing arts center at Purchase College, this group features notable conductors and performers such as Itzhak Perlman.

Food and Drink

Westchester County offers plenty of fine dining opportunities. Whether it’s at a local main street such as as in Tarrytown or a large urban downtown area in White Plains, you will find something favorable to your taste. The area near Mamaroneck Avenue and Post Road feature most of White Plains’ restaurants, bars, and lounges. From fine Italian cuisines at Antipasti to great lobsters and crab cakes at Legal Seafood, White Plains offers something for everyone.

Yonkers is another city that offers some of the county’s best food. The waterfront downtown area has a variety of restaurants and eateries serving local and international cuisines. For example, Zuppa is an upscale sit-down restaurant that offers a menu that’s packed with authentic Italian tastes. The X20 Xaviar’s on the Hudson is one of the most popular restaurants among locals and visitors. This waterfront establishment offers scenic views of the Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge, and the Palisades Cliffs. Great views and gourmet food from celebrity Chef Peter X Kelly is the perfect combination for hungry stomachs.

Family Friendly

Westchester County is a family friendly community that offers plenty of parks, excellent school systems, and attractions for children. Rye Playpland is by far the most popular family friendly venue in the county. This amusement park has been providing plenty of fun for entire families since 1928. Whether you are looking for the thrill of a roller coaster ride or vertical drop, there is something to provide plenty of adventure for parents and kids.

Known as one of the most wealthy counties in the USA, Westchester County is located just 20 miles north of Manhattan, New York City. In addition to offering comfortable living environments to nearly 1 million people, Westchester offers plenty of attractions and activities for tourists. The area has an excellent transportation system that connects to NYC via MTA trains.

When it comes to historic sites, some of the most spectacular attractions in Westchester County are Kykuit and Lyndhurst. Kykuit is known as the Rockefeller Estate, and it was home to the prominent Rockefeller family. Lyndhurst was home to American tycoon Jay Gould. Both lavish mansions are museums which offer various tours, as well as scenic views of the Hudson River. Sunnyside, home of author Washington Irving, is another museum nearby.

Rye Playland is an amusement park that offers fun for the entire family. Hudson River Museum in Yonkers offer a fine collection of local art about the Hudson Valley. Empire City Casino allows guests to take their chances at slot machines and gambling.

Whether it is art, history, roller coaster rides, or casino games, or waterfront dining on the Hudson, Westchester County offers something for people of all ages and interests.
