Most students will only rent to other students, grad students, and TA’s, but if you’re a young professional under 30, it may be a great idea to give it a try. Craigslist is also a wonderful source of available rooms for rent, but be sure to do your homework. Make sure the person you’re renting from is above-board, you’ve met them in person, and communicate with anyone you might be living with prior to moving.

Renting a room, whether for a month or for a semester, can be an inexpensive and invaluable way to live away from home. With a little preparation and a little street-smarts, you can make renting a room a positive experience.
