Something set it on. Some conditions will send this as an alert, but the engine will still run. It is not optimum and usually then puts the computer in "open-loop" instead of "closed-loop". Closed-loop is when all is functioning as it should and the sensors are feeding good data to the computer so it can monitor fuel mixture for optimum. In open-loop, the computer "guesses" at the fuel mixture so usually uses more fuel than neccessary. The way to find out why the lite came on is get into the computer & see what codes are there. 1996 & newer use OBD II as a standard. Pre-1995 are OBD I and cars differ in how to get the codes from the computer & decipher them. Hanes makes a good manual that is not outragious (about $15). It should tell you how to get at the codes & what the code means. If you still cannot figure it out, take it to a good Jeep mechanic to diagnose & fix but yes it will cost. You might also try an OBD I scanner, I have seen them for about $30-50 depending on the features. My older 1991 has a diagnostic port on the fire wall driver side. I am not sure if the 1995 does, but I do know they have a different computer system between the 2 of these years. I think the 91 & 92 were same then they changed from 93-95. Hope this helps
Oil Pressure Engine Temperature Fuel level Battery voltage
Take a look at the gauges. At least one of them is out of it's normal parameter.
you need a new battery.
Had the same problem on two occasions with my 99 Blazer...sounds as though your alternator is going bad. The car will run good while the battery is charged up, but as the battery wears down, the engine will run poorly and the gauges will operate erratically. Eventually, the battery will not have enough energy to allow the engine to run, and it will stall.
It means at least one of the gauges is out of its normal range. The "check gauge light" is notifing you to take notice with either the engine temp gauge, the battery gauge or the engine oil pressure gauge.
i had this happen once on an 03 dodge minivan. the alternator went bad and the battery was going dead but had enough power to get the engine started. once i replaced the alternator and charged the battery the gauges worked again. good luck!
The check gauges light comes on when one of the guages is out side of the safe zone. It could be battery voltage, oil pressure, engine temp....
battery cables not making good contact with battery
Seized Engine? Weak battery? Loose or corroded battery cables? Bad starter? Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
If a 1999 Jeep Wrangler dash gauge stops working, check the fuse. The fuse may have blown out and will need replaced.
NO... mechanical speedo vs. electrical. fuel sending unit differs and different harness for under dash
need more info what gauges?
