A manual fuel pump is easily replaced. However an electric fuel pump although easily replaced is hard to get to. Unless your vehicle has an access panel above the fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank on top, as most Honda's do, you will have to remove the fuel tank to gain access to the pump. Look closely for an access panel before draining and removing the tank.
Remove the back seat cushion. Unplug two electrical connectors. Remove the screws holding the cover over the pump. Remove the cover. Remove the screws holding the top on the tank. Carefully lift the pump and fuel gauge sender out. See Haynes manual for 323 and Protege.
Not until absolutely necessary, and all symptoms lead to the conclusion that it has gone bad. Most vehicles with tank mounted fuel filters also have tank mounted fuel pumps. It is a difficult and expensive proposition to replace either or both.
depends on the make and model.. but most fuel pumps are located inside the fuel tank. So to replace it you would have to drop the tank then remove the fuel pump and fuel filter assembly from the tank.
Fuel pumps are in the tank. Whether or not you can do it yourself depends on how much skill and equipment you have. The tank has to be removed to get at the fuel pump.
With most vehicles the pump lasts the life of the vehicle, but I replace more GM pumps within 100K than anything else.
It is a difficult repair because the fuel tank must be removed unless there is an access panel above the fuel tank.
Electric pumps are normally in the tank and require the tank to be dropped for access.
I just had one replaced on my 2001 Aztek. It is inside the fuel tank. This was a costly experience. Fuel pumps are expensive then the labor to drop the fuel tank and replace it is crazy!!
go to a mechanic to do it... you have to take down the fuel tank and before that you have to remove exhaust and drive shaft... and btw. this car does have 2 fuel pumps...
On the in-tank fuel pump, or pumps if you have two tanks.
Earlier carburated vehicles used external fuel pumps.
Most fuel pumps for fuel injected vehicles will cost more than $100.00, U.S.
If fuel pumps were not necessary, there would not have any on your car! If there is a problem with your fuel pumps, your car will not start, or it will start but it won't run for very long.
