The NSS is a common failure on the Cherokee. Not only will you have no reverse lights, eventually your Jeep will no longer start. Replacement NSS are on the pricey side, so i recommend a rebuild.

Very quick and easy to do and quite a few write-ups have been done. Google "Jeep NSS rebuild".
