They did not use a crank sensor in 1984, There was no need for 1
you don't the computer sets it from the crank sensor
could cost anywhere from 20 to 40 dollars
first check and see if you have injector pulse if you do try changing the crank sensor its only about a $20 part
I would start with the Pickup Coil and the Crank Sensor.
I have a 93 Corsica and had this problem. 1. crank sensor 2 ignition modual 3. main brain. Ck codes at a shop. Some will do this for free.
this can be cause by the crank position sensor if the fuel pump is running well then the only thing that cold cause the problem is crank position sensor
bad crank sensor would be a good start its $20 bucks at orilleys auto store also the wiring from the crank sensor to the coil packs could be coroded replace both and that should do ya
check the crank shaft sensor under the engine near the starter motor.
My 92 PA did the same thing. I had to replace the crank sensor and then the cam sensor. Either one can cause this problem.
Jack up the car or put it on a lift first. The you can see it on the backside of hte oil pan. If you are asking because you have a bad crank sensor, you should know that usually you have to take off the oil pan to change it. I was able to get mine out wihtout taking off the oil pan. If replaing it the crank sensor will be about $100 and maybe $20 for an oil pan gasket
It is on the left side above the pedal can't miss it
this is NOT the mass air flow sensor but this is a 20 second fix, it is located on the tube between the air filter box and engine on the firewall side of the tube
