when my 1998 Dodge Durango would start and cut back off, I had to reset the alarm by using the lock / unlock buttons on my key remote.
The red light indicates a failure in the security system. It will not start with a failure.
Check the starter! It happened to my 2000 dodge durango too.
speed sensor on transmission
Misfires, hard start, no start, more often when wet.
well, theres dodge, durango, datson, daimler, desoto
A blown radiator hose could not cause a 2000 Dodge Durango to not have spark and not start unless the heat damaged the computer in the vehicle. Sometimes when an engine overheats, the computer that controls the firing can be damaged.
I turn it off to go shopping then will not start again
2003 dodge neon that will start but will not stay running and dies after it starts?
See http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/reliability.aspx?year=1998&make=Dodge&model=Durango . Under "Brakes". It's probably the Rear Axle Speed Sensor. Easy Fix. Do-It-Yourself. Search this site or Google "Replace rear axle speed sensor 1998 Durango"
Try sitting in the seat and using the key.
Thanks to no help from Chrysler or Dodge....I ended up figuring this one out for myself. I hope this will help you out. Start your Durango and leave it running for about two minutes. Once you do this, press both the lock and unlock button on your keyless entry (key fob) and do this three times, each time holding it pressed down for about two seconds each time. After this, your keyless entry should be reset and working. This had to be done on my Durango after I changed my battery.
