Adjust door on s10 to close tighter?

You can adjust the striker pin on the door post with a torx socket. Also, if there is too much slop in the door hinges that can cause problems. The hinges can be repaired with door hinge pin and bushing kits from your local auto parts store.

Where is VIN on 1957 Ford?

How do you change the door hinges from the origanal weld on type to the replacement bolt on type on a 1996 s10?

BIG JOB! The welds have to be drilled out to remove the original hinges. The door side hinge half can be installed thru the inside of the door by removing the door panel. The post side hinge halfs are very difficult. The entire dash assembly needs to be removed to gain access to the upper hinge half.

How do you adjust the drivers door on a 1986 Chevy Celebrity?

The adjustments are preset at the factory. If the door is sagging it may need new hinge pins and bushings. IF you have changed doors and the hinge pins and bushings are good the adjustments are on the door post behind the dash or the kick panel on the bottom. The hinges are commonly tack welded in place and the welds have to be broken. It is a royal pain in the neck to get to the adjustments. If you have a factory service manual or a Chilton or Haynes manual you will find better help there. GOOD LUCK

How do you Adjust door hinges on 1957 thunderbird?

The bolts go into a plate in the door and the door post, not solid holes in either. The plate will move up and down, side to side a little bit. Loosen the bolts and adjust as needed.

What would cause a car door not to align with the strike?

You need to replace the pins. Although answer 1 is not incorrect, it may not be necessary to make the drastic move of removing and replacing the hinge pins. Usually the reason for replacing hinge pins is excessive wear of the pins, and also usually if the pins are THAT badly worn, so also are one or both of the hinge brackets through which the pins pass. This condition dictates total replacement of the entire hinge. BEFORE REPLACING ANYTHING, I suggest trying to ADJUST the door/hinges. The door hinges are bolted to the door post with 3 to 4 bolts or large screws per hinge. Try adjusting by: 1. Open the door, and locate the hinges and examine the area right around the hinge. Sometimes, if the hinges have "slipped," you can see an "outline" showing where the hinge WAS located. Visual confirmation of slippage not withstanding, continue this adjustment procedure. 2. With the proper tool [a wrench, or a screwdriver] LOOSEN[only] the bolts or screws [all fasteners] on both hinges. Only loosen JUST ENOUGH to allow [when the door is almost closed, to within an inch or two of the latch post]to be lifted into proper alignment in the opening and with the strike/guide. 3. While holding the door at the proper elevation, carefully open it just enough to retighten the fasteners. There WILL be a tendency for the door position to shift on you, possibly requiring several attempts. However, with patience, you may be able to readjust the door, and prevent the need to replace the pins and/or hinges.

How do you replace the door hinge pin on a 1997 Chevy pickup?

A guy I met who does body work told me that you impact the door pins out of the hinge. the bushings go bad on them so it causes the door to sag and not close properly. I just don't know if you have to impact hammer them from the top down or bottom up. I think its from the top down. post back if this is right or not. I need to replace the pins on my driver side door too.

Is it expensive to have a s-10 1997 door hinge replaced?

Yep. They are welded in place originally. The door side is easier, the door post side is very time consuming. If yours is not to far gone they have a pin and bushing kit to rebuild your hinges. This would be the cheapest way to go.

How do you adjust the drivers door on a 2005 intrepid so it will shut tighter?

Almost all car doors adjust the same way, by adjusting the bolt or u latch on the door post. The part the lock catches on. Some have 2 bolts, some are the bolt itself. Just loosen the catch and move it in a bit.
