1. purchase a set of "easy-out" threaded bolts. These have the thread in reverse, so that as you tighten the easyout, it turns the bolt out.
2. drill a hole in the center of the stud, no larger the 1/2 the diameter of the stud.
3. insert the proper size of easy-out bolt
4. use a wrench to tighen easy-out and remove bolt.
Note: It is always a good idea to spray the stud with wd40 or loosen-all to help release the stud from its housing.
It goes into the water pump. You remove a plug and screw in the block heater. Between the engine and the firewall. You can get at it from underneath.
Take the oil filter off and remove the threaded piece that the oil filter screws onto with a #10 allen wrench, it will fit up inside of the center. Then with I believe a #40 torks remove the two bolts that holds the adapter to the block, once the adapter is removed, screw the center threaded piece that you first removed into the block and install a new oil filter. Then you can remove the oil lines from the radiator.
Weld a larger nut over the broken bolt and let it cool. It will turn out for you.
Sometimes they use that threaded drain plug location to attach a knock sensor. So if you see a knock sensor threaded into the side of the block that may be where the coolant drain is located.

Chevy Tahoe Heater Return Pipe Hey GMMerlin, I have a leak coming from that threaded fitting for the heater hose. Can this be fixed simply by retightening the fitting or do I need to buy a new one? You will have to replace it...most likely when you touch it, it will break and leave the threaded part in the intake.. Its a PIA to remove the broken off portion, but you don't have to take the manifold off to do it. Go to www.thread-saver.com for a new tool to remove the broken part. if it breaks off you can get the threads out with a small punch and then use wet dry vac. to remove small parts in hole. you can just buy the threaded part and use hose clamp to connect after you cut off the end of hose that is crimped it has a small lock ring that will also go bad or crack not a great design by chev. do it yourself in 10 min or so
That threaded nipple is removable, replace it.
If the bolt broke off inside the block, you can purchase a tool called an easy out. This tool allows you to remove any broken bolts of various sizes.

If the starter bolts on your Mercruiser engine are broken off in the block, you'll need to remove the broken pieces carefully. Start by using a left-hand drill bit, which can sometimes extract the broken bolt as you drill. If that doesn't work, you may need to use an easy-out extractor tool, but ensure you have the proper clearance and technique to avoid damaging the block. In extreme cases, you might need to have a professional machine shop handle the extraction.
