It's always a difficult diagnosis to know whether or not an ECM, PCM or any other type of control module is bad in a vehicle. You need to know what the outputs are and what values should be seen at the outputs at what time. Unless the board(s) are fried inside the module's case, there may be only sections of it that are bad. Either way, it will need to be replaced as a whole. The best way is to get to any of the sensors or actuators in the vehicle and test the reference voltage values being sent to those components. If you don't understand the fundamentals of how the computers in a vehicle work, it is doubtful you'll be able to make an accurate diagnosis. In that case, take it to a qualified shop, and tell them of your concern. Typically, a good shop will charge you one hour of labor to diagnose the issue. Maybe 1.5 hours if the problem is slightly more complicated. Expect to pay between $75 & $110 for the diagnosis.
Behind the glove box
The ECM
The ECM is supposed to ground the injector to make it work. Either the ECM is bad or something that tells the ecm to fire the injector is bad. TAke it to a mechanic.
ithe ECM is located under the hood just above the battery, cant miss it
LOW OHM READING - MEANS BAD INJECTOR COIL ECM FIRES FOUR AT A TIME ON 89'S IN LINE 14 -16 OHMS IS NORMAL LOWER OHMS RAISES AMPS BEYOND ECM CAPACITY AND ALL FOUR CAN MISFIRE
To change the computer on a 1987 Corvette, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Locate the ECM (Engine Control Module) under the passenger side dashboard, remove the screws or clips holding it in place, and carefully unplug the wiring harness. Replace it with the new ECM, reattach the wiring harness, secure it with screws, and finally, reconnect the battery terminal. Make sure to check for any diagnostic codes and reset them if necessary.
The computer is located under the hood , above the battery, adjacent to the cowl. It is hard to miss. It has a "finned" metal case and should have a white factory sticker that has the part number printed on it.
1980 California emissions, 1981 all other states
Behind driver seat in with battery , have to remove battery first to take it out. Check 20 amp fuse next to battery first it is for the ECM (computer).
Bad ECM or ECM relay.
The ecm on a 1988 Corvette is mounted under the dash on the passenger side, I just had to get one for mine and it took the junk yard employees 2 hours to find and remove it. You will need to talk to a Corvette mechanic or look through a manual with exploded views to find out how to get it out withour distroying the trim.
