I am not sure about the Mercury Sable but my car does that also, 2003 Pontiac grand am gt, it tells you how to reset in owners manual. I have to turn the key to the on position, wait about 10 minutes and the security light in the dash starts blinking, when that happens...turn the key off and try to start it. Hope this helps
