On a Ford F-150 ( V6 engine ) the engine cylinders are numbered :
firewall
3 - 6
2 - 5
1 - 4
front of vehicle
You can determine which is number one cylinder by tracing the number one wire back to the cap. The number one plug is the first one in the front on a four cylinder and on a V6 it is the first plug on the drivers side.
its a misfire on cylinder number 1, check your spark plug, plug wire and/or coil on cylinder number 1
If you look at the distributor of the car, sometimes they are marked with the cylinder number on the cap. Find number 1 and follow the spark plug cable to the spark plug. That will be No. 1 cylinder.
What coil goes to what cylinder
1) Have vehicle scanned to determine which cylinder is misfiring 2) Does vehicle have C.O.P. (coil on plug)? usually a bad ignition coil on that cylinder 3) Remove spark plug from that cylinder and do a compression test to determine if problem is internal to the engine (bad valve or ring).
I can't tell from here. Check the spark plug in the #5 cylinder, and the ignition wire to the plug.
Number one spark plug is closest to the radiator.
open the hood and the number one cylinder will be werethe first spark plug on the right , or the driver's side.
To determine if cylinder number 1 is on the compression stroke, you can perform a few checks: First, remove the spark plug from cylinder number 1 and put your finger over the spark plug hole while manually rotating the engine using a wrench on the crankshaft. If you feel air pressure pushing against your finger, the cylinder is on the compression stroke. Additionally, you can observe the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft; they should align according to the engine's specifications when cylinder number 1 is at the top dead center (TDC) on its compression stroke.
Change the wire, or coil plug
on the drivers side the plug closest to the radiator is the #1 plug.
