The first thing to do is remove the snap ring on the end of the crankshaft. The puller is made up of a half moon steel plate that slips between the block and the gear, a heavy steel bar that has bolts threaded through each end and that screw into the half moon piece, and a larger bolt that is threaded through the center of this plate. This bolt has a fairly broad end that contacts the center of the gear, and a hex head for a socket on the outside end. Using either an impact wrench or long bar on the socket, this bolt is screwed down until the gear is free of the crankshaft.
A small two-jaw or three-jaw gear puller works fine.
You may need a pulley (aka gear) puller to pull it off of the crank. The puller comes usually with bolts or claws you can ancor onto the pulley...
To use a gear puller effectively, first, select the appropriate size and type of gear puller for the job. Position the gear puller over the gear to be removed and ensure it is securely attached. Apply pressure evenly on the gear puller handle to slowly and steadily pull the gear off its shaft. Be patient and avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the gear or surrounding components.
To use a gear puller effectively, first, position the puller over the gear you want to remove. Then, tighten the puller's jaws securely around the gear. Finally, use a wrench to turn the puller's center screw, applying pressure to pull the gear off its shaft.
you just need a puller to take it off, it's not a special puller.
You need a special puller. You can lease it in AutoZone.
The proper tool is called a gear-puller
You have to remove the bolt on the pulley, then use a appropriate puller, to pull it off, just remember you need an insert(at least 4.5 to 5" long) that goes inside of the hole that pushes against the crankshaft. The puller has to push on this insert
Press off the balancer .
Your going to need to get a special puller if its rusted on, usually if its new or not rusty you can just remove the bolt and hit it with a hammer a few times and it will come right off but if it is rusted then you should get a crankshaft dampner puller
Once you have taken the flywheel nut off screw in the puller into the external threads till it bottoms then start screwing in the bolt that will press on the crankshaft till the flywheel comes off. penatrating oil would be a good idea so would putting the bike in high gear and holding the rear brake so the flywheel stays still (probably have an assistant do that)
It takes a special puller to remove the balancer. Advance auto parts stores will loan it to you. It is called a harmonic balancer puller.
