First, get a new serpentine belt. There is a de-tensioning wrench that you can borrow from Kragen Auto Parts, or Pep Boys. This wrench is at least 3 feet long, and you attach it to your alternator's back end, which has a bar-metal spring tensioner. The wrench bends back this tensioner spring, which allows you to remove the old belt, and put in the new belt.
