To disarm the alarm on the 1998 Ford Contour, simply turn on the ignition using the vehicle's key. You can also disarm the alarm using the key fob.
The key FOB allows the user to open the doors of their vehicle when within a given range. This FOB can be programmed by going to the Ford dealership.
No. The chipped ignition key did not start until the 1998 model year and was only on the 6 cylinder Contour and Mystique. (I've got a '97 6 cylinder Contour that seems to have a chip in the key.)
No. The Contour did not have chipped keys.
Yes, this can be done by a Ford dealer.
brake the window
yes but if the key has a chip in it then you will have to go to a dealership for tehm to program you a new one.
how do I remove the key switch from a 1998 ford contour You have to remove the plastic trim around the steering column (behind the steering wheel). Put the key in the ignition cylinder and turn one click. There is a small hole on the side of the ignition cylinder, stick a small screwdriver into this hole and press hard. Pull out the ignition cylinder with the key.
Take the key to a ford dealership
All u have to do is get the VIN or a key number and take that to a Ford dealer.
The 4 cylinder model does not have special keys. The V6 equipped cars have an anti-theft system called PATS (Passive Anti-theft Transponder System). The keys have an RF chip that has to be programmed to the computer. You can order new keys through the dealer, locksmith or online, but they have to be programmed into the computer before they will work. On early Contours and Mystiques you only need one working key to program additional keys. On later Contours and Mystiques you need two working keys to program additional keys. If you don't have a working key (or two) the dealer or a locksmith will be needed to program the key.
Each vehicle has it's own factory code
