I am looking around to replace the transmission on my 1995 Ford Windstar and the information that I received from several different mechanics is that the 1995 Windstar transmission is a "one year" transmission so you pretty much have to get a 1995 transmission for a 1995 windstar engine. I'm no mechanic and really have no idea but this is just what I've been told... someone out!
so far i have removed the both axels and the wiper's assembly and air intake, tires.brakes
To install a Ford Windstar transmission, first, ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Remove the old transmission by disconnecting the battery, draining the fluid, detaching the driveshaft, and unbolting the transmission from the engine and bellhousing. Position the new transmission in place, securing it with the appropriate bolts, and reconnect the driveshaft and electrical connections. Finally, refill the transmission fluid and test the vehicle to ensure proper operation.
where is the tcm in a windstar 2000 located

On a 2001 Ford Windstar, the transmission control solenoid is typically located inside the transmission pan. To access it, you'll need to remove the transmission pan, which involves draining the transmission fluid and unbolting the pan. The solenoid is usually mounted on the valve body within the transmission. It's advisable to consult a repair manual for detailed steps and safety precautions when performing this task.
To replace the transmission sensor on a Ford Windstar, first, ensure the vehicle is safely parked and the engine is off. Locate the transmission sensor, typically found on the transmission housing; disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mounting bolt(s) securing the sensor. Remove the old sensor and install the new one, securing it in place and reconnecting the electrical connector. Finally, check for any leaks and ensure proper functionality before driving.

Internal part that requires the transmission to be removed.
According to the 2001 Ford Windstar Owner Guide : ( Motorcraft MERCON-V is used in the automatic transaxle / transmission )
The Windstar transmission comes out the bottom. Support brackets are used to 'hang' the engine from the top in order to take the trans out. Ambitious project, but certainly doable.
