Since you note that it is an after-market radio, you cannot be sure that it uses the standard Ford retainer clips. See "Related Questions" below.
If the radio has a narrow front trim piece - take it off (They typically break very easily - be gentle!).
There are likely to be a spring clip that can released by pressing in with a very narrow 'tool'. Maybe something like a finger nail clipper file or similar.

There is a special tool just for Ford Factory Stereo removal. It is a little "U" shaped device that goes into the holes in the face of the unit. It actually takes two of the tools, (You will see 4 holes on the face plate). Go to any after market car stereo website and you can see what I'm talking about. (crutchfield.com is a good one) Hope this helps.
