Has happened to me THREE TIMES! One time, It was when the car was on and I couldn't turn it off. Chevy knows this is a flaw and they will usually change it for free<- Also there is a plunger inside the steering housing. There should be a square shaped plastic cover under the steering wheel, pry it off with a screw driver and then find with yoiur finger a plastic or rubber cylinder, pull this back and turn the key. It should come right out.

Mine blew apart inside and they had to cut the head of the key off and put in a whole new unit and reprogram the keys, it would have been over 200.00 bucks but was covered under warranty, they claim it won't happen again and is not the same design....I have my GM doubts.....It was great to have the car running on the tow truck and at the dealer which was closed on a Sat. or Sun. afternoon.....

The tumblers in the key cylinder have most likely become stuck in the wrong position and you will have to replace the ignition key cylinder.

89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Ignition key stuck in on position This is the second time last time cost 150 then after the warranty was up got stuck again?

In my case it was the ignition switch itself had overheated and seized up. Replace the switch (have to lower the column, disconnect the wiring plug from the switch, and remove/replace the switch.) Clean all connections to the switch, make sure they're connected solidly and not heating up again.

What do you do if your key is stuck in the ignition of a994 buick regal. the ignition will not turn to the lock position for me to remove the key?

The ignition key is stuck in the ignition Does not feel like the ignition switch is going into the lock position This is a 06 Fusion?

remove the plastic ring around the button you push on the shifter to switch gears, the car thinks it's still in drive and won't release the key. The ring removal will release it, but the actual fix involves replacing the whole shifter...

How do you replace the ignition switch on a 1997 jaguar xk8. I bought the car at auction and something is stuck in there.?

To replace the ignition switch on a 1997 Jaguar XK8, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws, then locate the ignition switch, which is typically mounted near the ignition lock cylinder. Disconnect any wiring harnesses attached to the switch, unbolt it from its position, and replace it with a new switch. Reassemble the steering column cover and reconnect the battery to complete the process.

How do you remove the ignition key cylinder from a 2003 Malibu?

First off, before you do anything you will need to make sure the lock cylinder is in the off position. If this is not done, you will need to reprogram the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) after replacing the ignition switch. Next you will need to remove the radio from the dash (you will remove the cylinder through the radio opening). Next, you will need to remove the beauty ring around the keyhole on the dash. Behind this there are 2 bolts. Once you remove the 2 bolts, you will be able to pull it through the backside of the dash and disconnect the 2 plugs and the anti-theft sensor. IF for some reason you are not able to remove the switch in the off position (if its stuck in the on position like mine was), you will need to reprogram the PCM after replacing the ignition switch or it won't start. You can get the steps to do that for your vehicle from your local GM dealer.

How do you fix or replace the ignition on a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta when the key is stuck in the ignition?

To fix or replace the ignition on a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta when the key is stuck, first ensure the vehicle is in the "Park" position and the steering wheel is not locked. If the key remains stuck, try gently wiggling it while turning the steering wheel to relieve any tension. If that doesn't work, you may need to remove the ignition assembly by accessing the ignition switch screws and disconnecting the wiring. Once replaced, ensure the new ignition is properly aligned and tested before reassembling.
