It does not have a timing belt. It has a chain. the timing chain is on the left side(passenger side) of the engine, you might want to thing about changing the water pump at the same time being that to get to one you have to move the other.

To remove the distributor on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety.
