Remove transmission oil pan for access to filter
A manual transmission does not have an oil pan.
To remove the transmission from a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, first, disconnect the battery and drain the transmission fluid. Next, remove any components obstructing access, such as the battery, air intake, and exhaust components. Then, disconnect the transmission linkage, wiring harness, and any drive shafts before unbolting the transmission from the engine. Finally, support the transmission with a jack and carefully lower it from the vehicle.

Begin by removing the 2003 Chevy Cavalier alternator belt. Remove the wiring from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.
Disconnect the positive cable from your 2003 Chevy Cavalier battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
Remove the transmission pan.
