I replaced the upper control arm bushings and balljoints on my 92 2WD with a cummins, I loosened the nut on upper balljoint about half way off.then put a socket on lower balljoint nut found a strong bolt that would fit in square hole of socket.and just long enough to fit between upper and lower balljoint studs closely. with a nut on said bolt. then with nut screwed all the way down on bolt stick the threaded end in square hole of socket and head of bolt against upper stud unscrew nut to expand bolt against both studs when you get as much pressure against the two rap on the nuckle that balljoint is in. I tried balljoint seperater it just bent the forks.I then used a scribe to mark the position of the two A arm bushings at the back of A arms removed them. and pulled the A arm out. the balljoint is threaded in the special Dodge socket was $89 so I took it to a shop had the old ones pulled and new ones put in $20 each.Be sure to realine the control arm bushings that you marked as close as you can.I have about 5000 miles since I did my PU drives fine but still needs alinement.

To change the universal joints on a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 4WD diesel, first lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Remove the driveshaft by unbolting the U-joint retaining straps or bolts at both ends. Use a U-joint press or a hammer and socket to remove the old U-joint from the driveshaft and yoke. Install the new U-joint by reversing the removal process, ensuring proper alignment and lubrication before reattaching the driveshaft.
Sounds like a bad CV joint. On most cars, it is often more economical to replace the complete axle shaft on that side that has a bad cv joint. Hope this helps. Good-luck!
The 2000 Ram had u joints, not cv joints at the front axle.
For the lower ball joint, remove the lower control arm and the ball joint seal. Press the ball joint from the control arm. Press the new ball joint into the lower control arm ensuring it is fully seated, install a new seal and the lower control arm.

Remove the rear U-Joint and be very careful not to loose caps or any needle bearings. Uses lock rings to hold it in place. Tape it together with duck tape. Now pull the drive shaft out of the transmission and remove the front U-Joint from the driveshaft and replace it. Reinstall in reverse order.
