To replace the fuel filter on a Ford Escape, first ensure the vehicle is turned off and the fuel system is depressurized by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls. Next, locate the fuel filter, which is typically found along the fuel line under the vehicle or in the engine compartment. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter using appropriate tools, then remove the filter from its bracket. Install the new filter in the same orientation, reconnect the fuel lines, and restore the fuel pump relay before starting the engine to check for leaks.

If you follow the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine, you will find the fuel filter.
A2009 Ford Escape XLT V6 AWD has a lifetime fuel filter located in the fuel tank. I looked everywhere and the parts stores show an external fuel filter but there is not on. I checked the owners manual it confirmed it is a lifetime fuel filter in the tank.
It's at the back in front of the fuel tank. Just unplug the connectors and replace the filter.

The fuel filter in the 2010 Ford Escape is located inside the gas tank. You can access it under the rear seat directly behind the drivers seat. there under that seat you will find a large rubber seal under which, is the fuel pump / fuel filter access. Exchangeing the fuel filter alone, in not an option. You have to replace the complete fuel pump assembly which isnt feasible unless, there is a fuel pump prob.. Then you have a larger problem cause; the fuel pump costs up-ward of $400.
