It is a difficult endeavor. It's only two bolts that hold the alternator in, but getting to them can be a pain.
First, spray them with a bit of PB blaster and let them sit. Disconnect the battery. You'll want to loosen, not remove, the upper bolt first. As the exhaust shielding sometimes obstructs the path to the upper alternator bolt, I typically use a long extension and bend the shielding enough to get the socket/extension where I can use the ratchet. Once it's loosened, raise the rear of the car and remove the passengerside wheel. You may have to remove portions of the inner fender skirt, but once you do you'll see the lower alternator bolt. Loosen it, and you can now pivot the alternator forward and slid the belt off. Once that is done, remove the lower bolt. Back up top, disconnect the wiring going into the alternator, remove the upper bolt, and slide the alternator out from under the car through the rear suspension.
Getting the new one in requires it going through under the car where it came out and upwards. Having a helper really speeds the process along. Installation is obviously reverse of the above.

It's two bolts. There is a top alternator bolt and an lower adjustment bolt. Loosen both bolts enough to slip off the alternator belt. Remove the bolts, and then slide the alternator down and under the car through the passengerside wheel well. Installation is the reverse of above.

To replace the voltage regulator on an 1985 Fiero, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Locate the voltage regulator, which is typically mounted on the alternator or near it. Remove the electrical connections and unscrew the regulator from its mounting. Install the new regulator by reversing the removal process, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.
