This applies to the 98 GT 4-door, but it should be the same for all years of the 4-door. Pull down the back of the back seat. Holding the trim are 4 panel connectors. You may need something to pry the bottom edge in the middle up, but you should be able to work a hand in and pull them loose. There is also plastic trim that starts at the rear of the door pillars and continues in on each side of the trunk. Once you pull the panel connectors free, the trim can be pulled from where it wraps around the trunk sheet metal, behind the seat. Once you have those pulled loose, the deck carpet can be pulled up, most easily by working your hands under the carpet in the middle and pulling it loose. Once it starts to come free, slide the seat belts loose through the slots cut in the trim rings and the board backing the carpet. It takes some work to get it loose, but be patient and you can pull the board out without breaking it. Once removed, the speakers themselves are simple. They are held in trim rings that snap into the deck itself. Press in on the tab facing you and press up. Once the tab comes out, there are two footed connectors on the back side. Push the speaker toward the window and the feet will slide out of their holes. The bolts holding the speakers themselves have 7mm heads. There are quick connectors for the speaker wires that you will need to cut loose. The wires follow the convention that the lighter colored wires are positive. Leave a couple inches of wire when clipping the connectors, in case you want to re-install the stock speakers later. This will leave enough wire to be stripped and reconnected to the stock wires. Again, patience will be rewarded. You may want to consider cutting out the parts of the board that cover the speakers, as they are simply drilled through and you will likely get better sound if you remove the board covering the speakers. It will also help if you have 2- or 3- way speakers that are taller than the ring the speaker is mounted in. Reinstalling the carpet works in reverse, although it can be a hassles working it back into the original position and fitting it back under the plastic trim. Don't forget to slide the seat belts back into place! Be careful near the edges - I broke one of the seat belt trim rings. I didn't think to check if those could be removed before pulling the whole unit out. Don't worry if, when you get the carpet back in and the holes don't line up perfectly - the panel connectors can help push the carpet back into place.
