Assuming an 01 is the same as a 99, you have to unmount the entire light assembly. Start by removing the two retaining nuts and all of the plastic fasteners holding the molded carpet in place (I used a straight screw driver and curved long nosed pliers). There is also a smaller plastic fastener in each of the hinge covers that have to be removed. Once the carpet has been removed unscrew all of the plastic wing nuts. You might have to give the studs a love tap to get the light panel loose. Then without removing any wires, just flip the assembly up on the trunk lid to see all the light sockets. I would suggest changing all of the bulbs in the unit it is accessible. For some reason Auto Zone had the bulbs for my caddy listed wrong. The bulbs in my 99 were 194, 1157 and 3157.
