I have a 97 Astro that is leaking. The dealer ship quoted a price of $650. minimum. I know there is a lower and upper manifold gaskets.I'm faced and with cruise control and fuel injection and I am a little aprehensive. But being out of options and low on funds due to uncle sam and cost of living increases and not alot of work I might have to take it on. Any help would be cool. I have been driving GM products for 30 years and have never had a intake manifold gasket blow.
That is a very COMMON PROBLEM WITH those engines. You need to replace the intake manifold gaskets to fix that problem.
intake manifold gaskets need replacing, i have repaired several of these
you can as long as you use your TBI heads if you want to use the vortec heads with TBI you will need a special intake manifold or a carb manifold with a adapter to mount your throttle body to the carb manifold heres some more info TBI heads will mount to the vortec block TBI intake manifold has 12 bolts vortec intake manifold has 8 bolts
We have had several 4.3L engines at work develop coolant leaks from the intake manifold gaskets failing.
no such thing as a vortec 5.3 tbi
I live in KY. And the going labor rate on that job is 250.00 to 300.00 dollars to replace the intake manifold gasket.I charge 250.00 $ when I do them at the shop.
Look at the intake manifold. A vortec engine has 8ea. All the others have 12ea.
It will as long as the 305 is a VORTEC ENGINE TOO.
Yes they are the same.
On valley cover plate underneath intake manifold. Must remove intake manifold to get to them.
this is a common problem with the Vortec engine and the manifold gaskets that GM uses. In fact, if you do a search on GM manifold gasket you'll see all the chatter about a class action law suite related to this problem. Bottom line is that you'll need to replace the manifold gasket - preferably with an after market replacement (like Fel Pro) so you don't have to do it again!
A vortec 350 has a two piece intake manifold, with the upper portion being plastic.
