The clear covers for the license plate light bulbs have small arrows pointing in one direction. Simply push the cover to the direction of the arrows and the covers will slide off allowing for the old light bulbs to be replaced.
Remove the screws that hold the covers in place. Replace bulbs!

To replace the license plate bulbs on a 2002 Mazda Miata, first, open the trunk and locate the license plate light assembly on the rear of the car. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the light cover. Once the cover is removed, twist the old bulb counterclockwise to remove it, then insert the new bulb by twisting it clockwise until secure. Finally, reattach the light cover and test the new bulbs to ensure they are working.

Its harder to replace the side and indicator bulbs on a crv 01 plate remove grill then remove bumper then remove light cluster then replace bulbs. A lot of work for little bulb you would think it would be easy but it aint............
To change the license plate bulbs on a 2008 Ford Taurus, first, open the trunk and locate the license plate light assembly. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the light cover. Remove the old bulb by twisting it counterclockwise, then insert the new bulb by twisting it clockwise. Finally, replace the light cover and ensure it’s securely in place.
There are two (2) lights directly above the license plate. Each light has two (2) screws. Remove these screws and the covers. Lights pop out with little effort. Replace bad bulbs with size 194 lights. These are approx $2 at walmart or an auto parts store. Once bulbs are replaced, reattach covers with the screws and you should be good to go.
The light is held by clips. You can remove the housing by using your fingers or a small screw driver. Once you have the housing out, you should be able to easily replace the light bulbs. The bulbs come in pairs and cost about 5 bucks.

Reach under the car and feel the back of the license plate light. There's a metal clip, which when squeezed, will allow you to easily pop the license plate light out. Then simply twist the part holding the bulb 90 degrees, and you'll be able to pull the socket out and replace the bulb.
