Jack up and support the car. Disconnet the battery,Crawl under the engine in the middle with a 14mm socket and ratchet and a 12 mm wrench and a flathead screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to remove the small plug on the bottom wire. Move the rubber cover and use the 12mm wrench to loosen and remove the battery cable. Now the fun begins, The bottom bolt is not hard to reach,But the top can be tough U cannot see it so u must feel around to get the socket on it loosen it up and remove it then do the bottom. Installing it is not as hard as it seems as the starter will stay put without the bolts being in it but I would put the bottom bolt in just in case. Good luck!!
Follow the pos battery cable. It is at the end.
For an automatic transmission, check the side of the transmission by or at where the shifter linkage goes into the trans. For a manual transmission, check under the shifter boot.
On the 1.6L sohc starter is between the engine and fire wall. By the oil filter.
actually cheaper to buy a different car. to convert from auto to manuel, you will need a new gearbox and bellhousing. a clutch. a flywheel.a clutch pedal, and master and slave cylander for clutch.most likely need to buy a different drive shaft. then you will need to put it all in the car. you may even have to change gearbox mounts to accomadate different gear box.then if starter is different you will need new starter to match new flywheel
Under the hood, inside a tube, sticking out of the transmission
where do you add manuel transmission fluid on a 1991 geo storm 5 speed
how do i replace the exaust resinator on a 92 geo storm 1.6 liter sohc

Don't waste your time or money rebuilding the starter just buy one already rebuilt. If you wish to rebuild your starter for some reason then take the starter off and carry it to a qualified builder for starters and alternators. Even the best automotive mechanics don't build starters or alternators anymore, it's just easier and usually cheaper in the long run to replace it.
