To replace the water pump on a 1998 Chevy Lumina, first disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the coolant. Remove any components obstructing access, such as the serpentine belt and possibly the alternator. Unbolt the water pump from the engine block, clean the mating surfaces, and install the new pump with a new gasket. Finally, reassemble everything, refill the coolant, and check for leaks.
No need to drain rad You dont even need to remove the lower rad hose just remove the four bolt on the water pump pully 10mill wrench then the pully should come off after that there are 5 8mill bolt that attach the pump to the housing easy as that by the way you need to left up the idler pully to get the belt off it swings up See "How to change water pump on 1990 Lumina". 98 lumina water pump is it the same

You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1998 Chevy Lumina ignition switch. Slide the ignition switch out. Remove the wiring harness.
