I just got told there were 2 sensors by shop fixing my 2001 VW Jetta V6, one in front and one behind the engine. Shop said they cost $80 a piece. Apparantly this is cheaper than a lot of other sensors for foreign cars ($200+ for BMW and Audi?) because the VW Jetta ones tend to fail every 40,000 miles unlike normal ones ... As a result of this glitch the replacements were made cheaper ... Not sure about that, but that's what I was told. Hope this helps There is one before the catalytic converter and one after it. The one before (called the "pre-cat" sensor) is usually the one that fails and the more expensive of the two. OEM sensors are under $100. Bosch sensors are about $120.
