Hi. I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V6.

The rear differential started leaking oil. I took it to my friend's nephew. When we lifted it up, the crankshaft was falling off. The seal had been stripped away and the bolt wouldn't set back in. Turned out the bearings were worn out. To have the Jeep people fix the entire differential it was $1,700. The nephew asked me to get some parts. He had to take the whole axle off and rebuild the differential. It took a whole day, but I only had to pay for parts. It cost me $400. The parts I bought were pinion seal, pinion bearings, carrier bearings, cover-gasket, silicone tube and differential oil.

So the rest was paying for labor. My coolant was also leaking and the awesomely patient nephew did a pressure test. The coolant thermostat and thermostat gasket were worn. I bought the parts for $11 They threw in a tube of silicone for it.
