To change the backup light on a 2000 Chevy Cavalier LS, start by locating the backup light assembly at the rear of the vehicle. Remove the screws or clips holding the assembly in place, then pull it out gently. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the old bulb by twisting it counterclockwise. Insert the new bulb, reconnect the wiring, and reassemble the light assembly.
Remove the light assy and turn the bulbs counterclockwise.
It comes out the back of the light housing.
open the trunk, take out the 6 wing nuts on the back of the light frame, close the trunk, pull top out first and lift up as u pull out, light panel will come out, change bulb and reinstall
Turn the key off and the light resets. If it comes back on (except for bulb-test), that means a problem has already been detected again and needs to be repaired.

To turn the trac system off so you can do burn outs, pull the parking brake up one or two clicks.
It has to be removed at the back of the assy. If you can't get to it through the trunk, you need to remove the light.
Take out the 2 bolts on top of light assy and lift up and forward. There is a tab on the bottom that slips into a slot when you put it back in.
trac sensor might be bad that was my prob on same year cavalier i had same problem, had a diagnostic test run, came back saying i needed new TPS just got that fixed, now it seems ok
turn the bulb clockwise until it pops out unclip it put in new one and twist it back in tadaaaaa!
take out the headlight. you'll be able to see the back of the parking light once you do this. the wiring harness should come off with a slight twist and a gentle pull. change you're lame plug and reverse the procedure
