To fix the rear lift gate on your 2006 Jeep Commander that won't open, first check the fuse related to the lift gate, as a blown fuse could prevent it from functioning. If the fuse is intact, inspect the lift gate latch and wiring for any visible damage or blockage. You can also try manually unlocking the lift gate using the key or the interior release switch. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it may be necessary to consult a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.
It's right under the Jeep logo on the lift gate.
I'm not a mechanic but I had a problem with my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee lift gate not closing properly, seemed to move to the sound causing a noise. I replaced the lift shocks and the problem disapeared
This is a software problem, not a fuse. Your Dodge Dealer has to correct the issue!
TRY PUSHING IN ON THE GATE WHILE LIFTING HANDLE..THIS SHOULD RELEASE THE PRESSURE AND IT SHOULD OPEN.
On a 2006 Jeep Commander, the speed sensor is typically located on the transmission. Specifically, it can often be found mounted on the side of the transmission case, near the output shaft. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any protective covers or components obstructing the sensor's location. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for detailed instructions and diagrams.

I just checked the manual for my 02' Liberty, and didn't locate any for the lift gate, so if I were you, I'd just start checking each fuse, to see if one is blown?Good Luck.
You have to remove the taillight assembly. When you open the lift gate there is 2 push clips (black round) that keep it in place. To remove the clips, you have to pull sort of hard. Then slide the taillight out of the slot that it clips into. Don't be afraid to pull the taillight, it's in there pretty tight even after the clips are removed. Twist the light bulb that needs replacing to the left and insert your new bulb.
