I just replaced the rear strap on my 94 ranger, 3.0 engine, extended cab 125" wheel base. Basically I removed the heat shield on the passenger side (4 bolts) - if there was a shield under the tank, it was missing on my truck. After the shield was out of the way, I supported the tank with a jack using a piece of wood to protect the tank. I then removed the bolts (2 - one on the heat shield side and one at the rear of the tank) for the rear strap and removed the bolt on the front strap (one - heat shield side). I was then able to push the tank over enough to remove the part of the rear strap hooked into the frame. I then hooked the new strap into the frame and put every thing back together. I used a wood wedge to hold the tank out of the way while I worked and although it was very tight, it wasn't too difficult. I don't believe the front strap can be replaced this way because it's much tighter between the tank and the frame. Hope this helps - Good luck.

On the tank you will see 2 straps around it,towards the back side (trunk) at the end of strap there will be a bolt in each strap, put a floor jack with a piece of wood about the width of the tank under it , remove the bolts, next using a screw driver remove the hose clamp holding your filler tube to the tank, pull hose off and let your jack down slowly.

In case you decide to go ahead I've done it before, in the rain and in a dirt parking lot, sometimes you don't get to choose. raised the back up as high as I could and blocked it with jack stands, then I positioned the floor jack under the tank. I loosened all the tank strap bolts and then took the weight off the tank with the jack, then I removed the two rear tank strap bolts and let the tank drop in the back slowly so I could see the connections. I then removed the electrical connections and hoses from the top and lowered the tank to the ground where I could replace the fuel pump. When I got ready to put it back in I slid the tank onto the strap ends that were hanging down from the front and pushed that side up into position while supporting the back, from there I set all the connections again, after that it was just wrangling the tank into position so I could bolt the straps again.Another opinion.You don't! Remove as much gasoline from the tank as possible before removal.Oh... but I did...there is an anti siphon screen at the tank...makes it hard to drain it... and it went fine... thanx n e ways
