Maybe the belt tension is too tight. This very same thing happen to me on a 92 Jeep Cherokee.
Is the belt the right belt ? Length , width and design Check your routing If you did not move any components ( fly wheel ???? ) then look at the belt. looks like you got to change the belt again anyway get a belt from a dealership
Only as needed. The serpentine belts hold up well unless there is a problem with the belt tensioner or any of the driven accessories.
I had the same problem with a 98 contour, It was the fuel pressure regulator.
I had a 1994 mercury villager I was having the same problem it shutting down when the engine got warm. The distributor was the problem . After I changed it I never had another problem with it shutting down anymore. Good luck
Check engine light usually indicates a problem in the emission control system - have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Remove the serpentine belt and check the belt and pulleys for damage. While the belt is off, turn the alternator by hand listening for the noise.
The belt breaking would be the problem. Investigate why it broke.

The short answer is "NO." They do not sell shortened belts. To fix the problem, you can do two things. Remove the a/c clutch with a puller and install a new one (a real pain!). Or, replace the a/c compressor.
