One reason a 1993 Chevy Lumina may turn over but not start could be the battery. It may also be the spark plugs.
By turning the ignition key...
Yes, you can jump start the battery on a 1998 Chevy Lumina. To do so, connect the positive (+) terminal of the dead battery to the positive terminal of the working battery, then connect the negative (-) terminal of the working battery to a grounded metal surface on the Lumina. Make sure to follow safety precautions and ensure the vehicles are off before connecting the cables. Once connected, start the working vehicle and then attempt to start the Lumina.
I own a '96 Chevy Lumina that has the same problem and it sounds like it is a fairly common problem. I don't actually have the solution, however I know that if I turn the car to the on position and sit for a couple of minutes, then try and crank it over, it will magically start. I was thinking maybe there is just a bad connection or wire somewhere in the ignition system.
With the key stuck in the accessory position the steering wheel is locked and the gearshift is locked in the park position. Perhaps you should consider having a locksmith change the key cylinder where it is, or else have it towed to the garage.
Try adding more gas
if the battery is dead the switch wont unlock or start
You can't, you have to replace the ignition switch
Bypassing the Passlock system on a 1997 Chevy Lumina typically involves locating the Passlock wires and connecting them directly to bypass the ignition lock. This usually requires cutting the yellow wire from the Passlock module and connecting it to the ignition wire to allow the vehicle to start without the security system engaging. However, bypassing the security system can lead to potential issues and may not be legal in some areas, so it’s advisable to consult a professional or consider repairs instead.
