You should just pull the shifter into the "3" position and it will never shift into overdrive.
If the vehicle does not have an overdrive, then realistically, you can not.
no overdrivelock out on this car you just pull it down a gear.
You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan ignition switch. Slide the ignition switch out and remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
This is a similar problem I had with my '91 Lumina APV. The problem I had was the transmission overdrive lockout switch. These trannies use an electro-hydraulic lockout switch to hold them in overdrive, but if the switch is malfunctioning it won't allow the transmission to downshift, so when you come to a stop the car stays in gear stalling out the engine. It's like stopping without using the clutch and not down shifting in a manual transmission car. The interim remedy for mine was to disconnect the switch from the transmission, then I sold the vehicle to escape the costly trans repair. Disconnecting the switch keeps the trans from shifting into overdrive, so you wouldn't want to do a lot of highway driving with the switch disconnected. Good luck!
what are the symptoms of a bad temperature switch
does the 2010 hyundai santa fe have an on off overdrive switch where is it located
Cars with automatic transmissions can sometimes have an overdrive lockout mode, hence the OD light. Most often overdrive is left on for normal day to day driving. Overdrive can be locked out while driving through mills or over a mountain pass and gives the driver better engine performance by eliminating the use of the overdrive gear. If the light is on, overdrive is locked out which will cause the engine to run at a higher rpm rate at highway speeds. If you drive for long period of time at highway speeds the engine may overheat or have a catastrophic failure. Also keep in mind, if the engine is working harder so is the transmission! If the lockout switch or button is malfunctioning and you can't turn the overdrive back on, it should be checked out by your mechanic.
You either have the lockout on or you have a defective master switch.
If the overdrive switch is turned off then the car will not go into overdrive. As it is not in overdrive, then it will not downshift out of overdrive as it normally would. It also will not shift to 3rd gear above a certain factory preset speed. Turn th overdrive on and see if it operates normally.
Either the neutral lockout switch, an electrical connection or the keyswitch. If it's a stickshift it could be the clutch pedal lockout switch.
There is no overdrive, per se, but a mode switch called "Power Mode" that doubles as an overdrive, allowing more RPMs per gear.
There is no separate switch for the overdrive, simply put the gear selector in the overdrive position. It looks like a D inside a square. Not all Chevy Celebrities have the overdrive feature, it was an extra cost option.
