No, the range sensor reads what gear or "range" you have shifted into.
A speed sensor reads the speed of an item.

No, the input turbine speed sensor and the transmission speed sensor are not the same, though they serve related purposes. The input turbine speed sensor measures the rotational speed of the turbine within the transmission, providing data for engine and transmission management. In contrast, the transmission speed sensor monitors the overall speed of the transmission output, which helps in controlling shifting and overall vehicle performance. While both sensors contribute to the vehicle's operation, they focus on different aspects of the transmission system.
That depends on which speed sensor you are referring to. There are 4 ABS speed sensors, an idle speed sensor, an engine speed sensor, and a transmission speed sensor that I know of. As far as which one runs your speedometer, I believe that is the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the housing of your transmission. I have the same vehicle and the same problem. I have the same question as you as well. I have been doing some research and I have told you what I found. My tachometer and speedometer are not working. If anyone else knows anything different, I am sure both of us would appreciate it.
Replace the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in your transmission. It is the same part number for an automatic transmission and a manual transmission in those year models.
is on the transmission It is the two wire sensor on the same side as the cooler hoses, closest to the engine.
my 1999 dodge caravan did the same thing and it was the speed sensor gone in it.THE speed sensor is located on top of transmission drivers side. Have it checked for codes, could be major or minor.
There are two sensors on a 2001 dodge ram. Input speed sensor and out put speed seed sensor. The first is used to measure torque converter speed and the second is used to measure output shaft speed. The output speed sensor provides the signal for the speedometer over 11 mph. Replacement is the same for both, disconnect the wiring connector, using a deep well socket, remove the sensor, install the new sensor in reverse order. Care should be taken when removing the sensor, transmission fluid will come out. This operation should not be done on a hot transmission.
In the transmission tail section same place the speedo gear is.
is the crankshaft position sensor the same and the engine speed sensor
Two sensors in the same part, yes.
On my 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 are 2 sensors. They are both located on drivers side of transmission. The one close to bell housing is input shaft speed sensor. The one at end of transmission is output shaft speed sensor. My input sensor went bad but replaced both. Both sensors are the same. Fairly easy to change out. About $47.00 each at dealer.
Most common cause is a failed output speed sensor. It is on the front driver side of the transmission.
Had same problem with 1998 ford contour gl. Replaced transmission range sensor and problem stopped.
