This is a common problem on regals .There are resistors on a circuit board behind the instrument cluster that are loose or burnt out. Getting to them is tricky , there was or is a video on youtube describing the procedure , the resistors are about $1 at radio shack for a 5 pack. They must be soldered to the circuit board . I had to replace 7 resistors that were loose. The original resistors were very small and poorly soldered. My gear indicator lights and odometer numbers did not light .

I had the same issue. In the instrument cluster there are 3 boards. The smallest board with the odometer and transmission status displays also has the 4 lights for the back lighting. This board is plugged into the main board and can easily be changed. Theses lights short out and cannot be changed out individually, the only thing you can do is replace this board.

I have the same problem a 2000 Saturn sc2 the odometer is diglital lights, regesters 50046 and does not change. Does anyone know if I can change with a junk yard cluster and have it work? dealer seams to think it,s the cluster but wants 500 dollars. would the black box send the correct milage on the car now or would the odometer show the milage from the salvage unit?
