Cruise will NOT work if the speedometer has a problem
The speedometer is not working. When the speedometer gets to 65 mph I set the cruise control.
I think you are seeing the cruise control light.
In a 1983 Chevy truck, the cruise control dash light is typically located on the instrument panel, near the speedometer or tachometer. It may be a small icon resembling a speedometer or a car with a speed indicator. If the cruise control system is engaged, this light will illuminate to indicate that the cruise control is active. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific details regarding your vehicle's dashboard indicators.
what exactly is wrong?
No
one end is going to be of course besind the spedo gauge in your cluster and the other end will be ithe in you transaxle orif you have cruise control it will be at the cruise control transducer.
I had to place a small piece of foam between the brake pedal shaft and the cruise control switch. The brake pedal shaft did not "push in" the cruise control switch far enough to let it work. I have had no more problems.
Fuse
It depends on the year and options. Which year model are you asking about? On the 1996-2000 cluster, there's a light between the tach and speedometer for the cruise control (if equipped).
If the odometer stopped working and the speedometer and cruise control still work, you have a bad odometer. It is part of the speedometer assembly so the whole thing will have to be replaced.
The speed sensor on the trans.
